Science
At Green Oaks, our science curriculum is rooted in our vision of learning for life, preparing pupils to understand their role within an ever-changing, global community. Through the National Curriculum, children develop strong scientific knowledge across biology, chemistry and physics, alongside an understanding of how science works through enquiry and investigation.
We aim to inspire curiosity and a sense of responsibility for the natural world. Pupils explore scientific concepts through hands-on experiences, making meaningful connections between people, places and environments at both local and global levels. They are encouraged to question, investigate and understand how they can contribute positively to sustainability and their communities.
Our curriculum is carefully sequenced to build knowledge and skills over time. Weekly lessons, organised into units, revisit and deepen prior learning while promoting links across subjects. Children engage in a range of scientific enquiries, including observing over time, identifying patterns, classifying, fair testing and research.
Assessment is integral to our teaching, helping pupils understand their progress and next steps. Through ongoing feedback, reflection and a range of monitoring strategies, we ensure high-quality teaching and consistent outcomes. By the end of their time at Green Oaks, pupils develop secure scientific knowledge, the ability to apply their learning in meaningful contexts, and an awareness of their responsibility towards the environment.
